John Singleton to Pity the Fool?

John Singleton

There's a new rumor going around that John Singleton, director of Boyz N The Hood, Four Brothers and the Shaft remake (we'll ignore 2 Fast 2 Furious for a while and pray he didn't have any input on the title), may be taking the helm of The A-Team movie. Latino Review says the film would be a lot more realistic than the TV series (watch entire episodes right here on Fancast) was.

Stephen J. Cannell, who created the show, will produce the movie with Spike Seldin. Mark Silvestri will exec produce. Alex Young will oversee the pic at Fox.
The new "A-Team" will be updated from the Vietnam era and reflect contemporary issues and politics. Tone of the film will be less cartoony and more serious, in the vein of "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon."
Not to long along Cannell did share some info on the project; "Not to denigrate the TV show, but nobody ever died," Cannell said. "We drove cars off cliffs and people got out and walked away. We're not going to do that (in the movie). In this the tone is more dangerous -- you can really die. It's very tense and exciting."

I'm all for Dirty Dozening up the A-Team. The trouble is that doing this will make it harder to find the mandatory cameo for Mr. T. Dwight Schultz could work in just fine, and I'm sure Dirk Benedict could have a nice role, but Mr. T is Mr. T, and he's not exactly someone who can blend in to the world around him.
