Kelsey Grammer has played Ebenezer Scrooge before. You didn't really have to have known that to know that, if you know what I mean. He's the kind of guy who would play Scrooge. Now, however, he's going to do it for an indie comedy directed by David Zucker called An American Carol.
This leads one to wonder what exactly "an indie comedy" from the director of Scary Movie 4 would actually entail, given the sketchy grasp of comedy involved in his recent work. Zucker will always get props for Airplane! but he's pretty well lost it since then. Yet the article doesn't mention that it's a 'spoof,' but rather an "indie comedy." Dare we hope that this "lampoon of contemporary American culture" has more substance to it, and that the pandering schtick that Scary Movies involve is just the bread and butter work he uses to pay the bills? Let's hope so.
