It looks like the Watchmen movie is done with principal photography, and to celebrate it, they've released an image of the hardass vigilante Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) burning his way out of a trap. It looks like a direct translation from the graphic novel panel to the screen, something director Zack Snyder is very big on, just as he was for 300. The fact that the film is going to have an R rating is indicative of how true Snyder wants to be to the spirit of the legendary original, written by Alan Moore, who is notoriously disdainful of all film translations of his work (usually with good reason). There's still the big mystery of how he's going to condense a story that could fill up a 12-hour miniseries into a 2-hour film, but my guess is that there's going to be a massive DVD extended-edition release that will truly be the finished work, and the theatrical release will simply be the preview for that.
Of course, there's the recent hullabaloo from Fox, who waited until the movie was in the can before piping up and claiming Warner Bros. is infringing on their obscure proprietary rights for Watchmen. As a friend of mine put it, "Fox is why we can't have good things."
