News: Justice League of Australia

Common, Megan Gale, Adam Brody

The seemingly snake-bitten production of DC Comics' Justice League film has hit another snag. It's been shaken up by the writers' strike, bad script rumors, talk of not having big enough names in the cast (Common as Green Lantern, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and Adam Brody as the Flash may not be oomph enough), and now they can't even get the expected rebate from Australian director George Miller bringing his production down under. And, for some reason, it's working title is Justice League Mortal, which sounds ominous - or perhaps apropos for this film.

Apparently, a 40% refund on "below-the-line" costs is supposed to be given to film projects in Australia, but the Film Finance Corporation Australia is currently saying the movies actually have to be about their continent/country and not just directed by one of them. Miller is fighting for the approval and reversal of this decision, which could shelve the whole endeavor indefinitely. It'll be a pricey movie, they'll need to clip their coupons like this. So the quest continues.

As an aside bordering on a non-sequitur, I can't see George Miller's name without thinking of the late unheralded comic of the same name, who's relationship advice included this treasured nugget of wisdom: "After sex, a man should never say 'Okay, Gertrude, that oughta hold you for a while.'"
