Battlestar Galactica is a tremendously good show [watch clips and full episodes]- a drama first and a sci-fi series second - and now the showrunner Ronald D. Moore [watch an interview with Moore about BSG] has been tapped to create and write a sci-fi trilogy for the big screen, although no details of the premise have been released.
This is fantastic news, with the caveat that he was signed by Tom Cruise's company United Artists [watch Cruise in the UA release Lions for Lambs]. But seeing what Moore did with a campy 70s show like BSG, I bet he could even make Battlefield Earth [watch the trailer] into something awesome.
