Sex and the City director Michael Patrick King has heard it, too.

The persistent rumor that the "catastrophic, life-changing event" that Carrie Bradshaw experiences will be the death of her long-running paramour and husband, affectionately called Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Or more specifically, as I wildly speculated, he gets hit by a bus with her face on it.

This is what King has to say about that (the death rumor, not the bus thing) - and obviously don't read any further if you want to have the events of the film be a complete surprise.

"Kill Mr. Big? I would have been chased around the planet by women with torches," said King, who also wrote the film and produced it along with its star, Sarah Jessica Parker.

"I did want an emotional roller-coaster," King said. "But my ultimate target was to make our 'girlfriends' -- in other words, our audience -- happy. And I don't think Mr. Big dying would make them happy."

"It's a summer movie," he said. "Why would I want to kill anyone?"
