Back in November of 2001, America needed a movie like Behind Enemy Lines. It's the story of Lt. Chris Burnett (Owen Wilson), a Navy pilot frustrated with his lack of action who winds up getting more than he bargained for once his jet is shot down over the Balkans, stranding him alone in hostile territory. His superior officer, Admiral Reigert (Gene Hackman) then proceeds to defy orders and protocol to mount a rescue mission for his wayward soldier. It's a brashly patriotic rah-rah film, all about the best aspects of military life - courage under fire and never leaving a man behind - and it's a chance to see Wilson in an action hero role that doesn't rely on his quirky humor or Jackie Chan.
