Katherine Heigl will not only star in the anti-polygamist film Escape as Carolyn Jessop, the woman whose testimony helped bring down cult leader Warren Jeffs, but she'll also produce the harrowing drama.
Jessop's story is highly disturbing - born into a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Utah which she fled at age 35 with her eight children, after a long history of physical and sexual abuse, as well as a forced marriage to a man 32 years older than her who also had three other wives,
It'll be a deep dramatic turn for Heigl, obviously, as she looks to reach beyond the comedy and soap-operas she's known for. No word on a director yet, but we'll keep you posted. This could either go the route of a strong Oscar contender, a Lifetime Original Movie or something in between.
