Frances Shepherd (LisaRaye McCoy), an introverted nurse and young mother, has been sentenced to Whitehead Correctional Institute, a maximum-security prison for women, for killing her abusive husband. As the days wear on and Frances and her fellow inmates are constantly abused, it starts to become apparent that the people in charge have no interest in rehabilitating their prisoners.
