The new trailer for the much-anticipated film adaptation of Watchmen, one of the greatest graphic novels of all time, debuted with The Dark Knight this weekend, and we've got it here on Fancast.
You don't get much in the way of plot out of this, as it's more of a teaser trailer focusing on imagery and mood. For those looking for a reason to dread this attempt to make a film out of the dense and nigh-unfilmable masterpiece (which Entertainment Weekly dubbed "the fanboy's Catcher in the Rye"), the fact that the music used in this trailer, "The End Is The Beginning Is The End" by Smashing Pumpkins, also heads up the soundtrack for Batman and Robin, the death knell of the Batman franchise in the 90s and the bane of Joel Schumacher's existence, could be considered a bad omen.
Another worrisome note is that director Zack Snyder has a three-hour cut that the studio wants to cut down to 2:25. Snyder said this to EW:
"I keep telling them 'Guys, I can't take this out! Don't you understand?! If I f--k this up, I might as well start making romantic comedies!' They have a chance to support something that I think legitimizes the superhero-movie genre for everyone who says superhero movies are stupid, popcorn bulls---. Hopefully Watchmen can get in their faces and change their minds."
The Dark Knight is the first salvo in that effort. If Snyder can bring us the goods, Watchmen could deliver the last salvo necessary to achieve that goal. Watch the trailer and check the progress for yourself.

Anyone who has actually read Watchmen and listened to the lyrics of "The Beginning is the End of the Beginning" realizes that this is the perfect song choice for the trailer, write down to the title of the song itself.
I guess it's just easier to be snarky than to do one's homework, huh?

Certainly the lyrics fit. But to nervous fans, any connection to Batman and Robin is a little scary. Personally, I would have preferred something from the time period in which the film is set, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with one.
It's more fun to be snarky.
