Russell Crowe as Moriarty?

Russell Crowe

After Guy Ritchie gamely denied rumors that Russell Crowe might be signed on to play Sherlock Holmes' trusted partner Dr. Watson, the new word is that the rumor-makers were just a bit off the mark. Crowe is apparently in talks to play Moriarty, Holmes' brilliant archnemesis, which would be a much more fitting role for him. Opposite Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes in a much more adventurous interpretation of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle saga? This could be very interesting indeed.

For a more classic vision of Sherlock Holmes, watch the late, great Peter Cushing take on the role in The Hound of the Baskervilles for free in its entirety right here, right now on Fancast.
